The Voriconazole injections are available in 10 mg/1mL dosage strength. These injections are available as a single dose unpreserved sterile lyophile, which are for single use only and any unused solution should be discarded. Only clear solutions without particles should be used. The Voriconazole tablet and Oral suspension must be taken at least one hour before or after meal, usually every 12 hours. Voriconazole I.V. injection requires reconstitution to 10 mg/mL and subsequent dilution to 5 mg/mL or less prior to administration as an infusion, at a maximum rate of 3 mg/kg per hour over 1 to 2 hours. The diluted I.V. must be administered by intravenous infusion over 1 to 2 hours only and it should not be administered as an IV bolus injection. Voriconazole Tablets should be stored at 15° C to 30° C (59° F - 86° F). Before reconstitution, Powder for Oral Suspension should be stored at 2° C to 8° C (36° F - 46° F) (in a refrigerator). The reconstituted suspension should be stored at 15° C to 30° C (59° F - 86° F). It should not be refrigerated or freeze and the container must be tightly closed. Wholesale Price of Voriconazole The wholesale price of Voriconazole 50 mg oral tablet costs around $ 162.91 for 30 tablets and the lowest available price is $ 1.51 per tablet for 84 tablets (Bottle) at local U.S pharmacies. The per unit price of 200 mg voriconazole intravenous powder for injection is $ 44.23 Voriconazole - Mechanism of Action The primary mode of action of Voriconazole is the inhibition of fungal cytochrome P-450-mediated 14 alpha-lanosterol demethylation, an essential step in fungal ergosterol biosynthesis. Voriconazole binds and inhibits ergosterol synthesis by inhibiting CYP450-dependent 14-alpha sterol demethylase. The inhibition of 14-alpha sterol demethylase results in depletion of ergosterol in fungal cell membrane and thus responsible for the antifungal activity of Voriconazole.
