Clofazimine Manufacturer

Clofazimine is sold under the brand name “Lamprene”, and belongs to the drug class “Antitubercular Agents”. It is a drug used to treat leprosy and other diseases. In addition, it can tenuously kill leprosy-causing bacteria, Mycobacterium leprae. To treat the various forms of leprosy, it is used in conjunction with Rifampicin and Dapoxetine. In the treatment of lepromatous leprosy, it is particularly used to treat erythema nodosum. Also, it is sometimes prescribed as an adjunct or third-line treatment for a variety of skin conditions. The route of administration for this drug is the oral route. It should always be used in conjunction with other specific antibiotics in the treatment of leprosy. Resistance to drugs requires multi-drug therapy. It should be consumed after eating or drinking something. Some side effects associated with this pharmaceutical medicine are; skin discoloration, hair discoloration, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, eye and tear discoloration, photosensitivity, and lack of appetite. The accumulation of this pharmaceutical medicine in tissues can cause intestinal blockage. Clofazimine is contraindicated in people who have chronic abdominal pain and diarrhea, patients with liver problems, and patients suffering from kidney damage. These patients should be closely monitored if Clofazimine treatment is necessary. It falls in pregnancy category C. There is evidence that this drug crosses the human placenta, resulting in deeply pigmented skin on babies born to mothers who took the medication during pregnancy. Don't give to breastfeeding women unless indicated. This drug was approved by FDA in December 1986, for treating leprosy and is not commercially available in the U.S.

How does Clofazimine work?

T-cell activation and proliferation are inhibited by the anti-inflammatory activity of clofazimine. In addition to the direct antagonism of T-cell potassium channels Kv 1.3, indirect action has also been proposed.
