How does DEXCHLORPHENIRAMINE MALEATE work?

Dexchlorpheniramine Maleate blocks histamine, made by the body during an allergic reaction. It also blocks Acetylcholine. This results in relieving the symptoms of allergy like watery eyes and runny nose. During a reaction, the allergen binds itself to the IgE antibodies on mast cells and basophils. The result of biding is that the IgE receptors crosslink with each other. This initiates events that eventually result in cell-degranulation and in the process, gets rid of the histamine inside the mast cell or basophil. Histamine reacts to both local and widespread tissues via its receptors. Histamine produces pruritis, vasodilatation, hypotension, headache, flushing, bronchoconstriction, and tachycardia. It improves vascular permeability and potentiates pain.
