It is clinically used to prevent blood acid problems, i.e., Metabolic Acidosis. It is also used to treat arrhythmias resulting from overdosing on antiarrhythmics. Some other side effects include weight gain, edema, swelling of arms and legs. This list does not include all the possible side effects of this drug.
