What is Acetylcysteine drug?

It is a medication that is mainly used as a mucolytic agent as well as in managing acetaminophen poisoning. It is also known as N-acetylcysteine. It has efficacy in treating mild and moderate traumatic brain injury, HIV, and a variety of neuropsychiatric as well as neurodegenerative disorders such as cocaine, cigarette and cannabis addictions, autism, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Incase of acetaminophen overdose, Acetylcysteine can reduce the degree of injury to the liver. Its effectiveness is higher when administered early, say within 8-10 hours following the overdose. It was initially patented in 1960 and approved for medical use in 1968. Acetylcysteine is also on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.

Acetylcysteine manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors

Global Acetylcysteine manufacturers are found in the Netherlands, China, Italy, Japan, and Germany. These companies include Duchefa Farma B.V from the Netherlands, Nippon Rika and Nippon Protein both from Japan, Arevipharma Company and Pharmazell both from German, Fabbrica Italiana Sinteitici (FIS) from Italy, and United Pharma Industries Company and Wuhan Grand Hoyo both from China. Other Acetylcysteine suppliers engaged in its manufacturing, distribution and wholesale include Protechme Industries India Ltd., Japanese Pharmacopoeia, New Zealand’s Waitaki Biosciences, Zambon Group SpA from Italy, and Spain’s Moehs Iberica S.L. The more the number of Acetylcysteine manufacturers, the more the brand names of the drug. Some popular brand names include Acetadote, Cetylev, Parvolex, and Mucomyst. Acetylcysteine manufacturers package and market it as a tablet, an inhalant, solution, powder for solution, injection solution. These options are produced in strengths of 100 mg/ml and 200 mg/ml. Granular strength goes up to 600 mg.

Acetylcysteine for sale

Manufacturers of pharmaceutical products operate in countries with different legal regulatory policies. This means the cost of drugs is not uniform across the globe. Overall, wholesale prices are lower than retail prices. The lowest price of a 600 mg tablet of Acetylcysteine is $1.47 per pill for 60 units. For 200 mg/ml, the lowest price that we have established is $1.83 per ml for 30 mls. The cost of the powder form is in the range of $2.24 to $ 3.09 per g. These prices are only estimates and may vary from one country to another. It also depends on the Acetylcysteine suppliers from which you are buying the drug. Additionally, online pharmacies always include the cost of shipping the medication although some may offer free shipping. Before placing your order online, always research the B2B marketplace for the best deals.

How to take Acetylcysteine

Acetylcysteine can be taken through the oral, intravenous, and inhalation routes. For the injectable solution, the usual adult dose for the treatment of Acetaminophen overdose is 300 mg/kg. It is divided into 3 separate doses that are given over 21 hours. The dose is normally prepared based on the patient's weight. For oral administration of 20% solution for inhalation, the loading dose is 140 mg/kg body weight once. The maintenance dose is 70 mg/kg body weight given 4 hours after loading. It is given every 4 hours up to a total of 17 doses. For the mucolytic, the adult dose is usually 3 to 5 ml of 20% solution. If the solution is weaker at 19%, then the dose increases to 6 to 10 ml. It should be given 3 to 4 times daily by nebulizing into a mouthpiece, face mask, or tracheostomy. Unlike other pharmaceutical products, Acetylcysteine can be quite complex to use. Always read labels for directions on use. Self-medication is highly discouraged. Ensure that you follow your doctor's advice. Some of its side effects include bronchoconstriction, drowsiness, hemoptysis, bronchospasm, vomiting, calmness, and stomatitis. Others are fever, chest tightness, rhinorrhea, and irritation of the tracheal or bronchial tract. You should inform your doctor immediately when you experience these symptoms.
